Match Summary

Gabon is gearing up for an important match as they aim for automatic qualification to the 2026 World Cup. They will face Seychelles on Wednesday at the Cote d'Or National Sports Complex, hoping a win will help them climb to the top of their group.

Currently, Gabon has 15 points from six matches, placing them second in their group, just one point behind the leaders, Ivory Coast. In contrast, Seychelles is struggling at the bottom of the group, having not earned any points so far.

This match marks Gabon's return to competitive play after a break of over five months. Although they played two friendly matches in June, where they lost to Niger but then won against Guinea-Bissau, the team is eager to build on that success.

Back in March, Gabon secured two crucial victories, defeating Seychelles 3-0 and Kenya 2-1 in their qualifying matches. Overall, they have scored 12 goals while allowing six against them in this qualification campaign.

Gabon currently ranks at the top of the play-off standings for runners-up but is focused on earning direct qualification. Winning against Seychelles is crucial, especially with a key game against Ivory Coast coming up shortly.

The players are feeling confident, having won three of their last four competitive away games. Defeating Seychelles, who are not performing well, is seen as a necessary step towards Gabon's first-ever World Cup appearance.

On the other side, Seychelles faces a tough challenge. They will play at a neutral venue in Mauritania, and their situation is dire; they sit at the bottom of Group F and have conceded the most goals in the African qualifiers—30 goals while only managing to score twice.

Having already been eliminated from the tournament, their focus is more on regaining some pride rather than progressing further. Their recent record shows they have lost 11 out of their last 12 matches, including heavy defeats of 3-0 and 5-0 in their last international games. This match is crucial for them to seek some redemption.
