Gor Mahia coach Charles Kwablan Akonnor has called on Ghana coach Otto Addo to consider midfielder Enoch Morison for a Black Stars call-up following his swashbuckling performances in Kenyan top-flight.
The former Asante Kotoko midfielder has been a standout performer in the Kenyan Premier League, delivering a remarkable 15 Man-of-the-Match displays in just 25 appearances.
His outstanding performance has propelled Gor Mahia to the top of the league standings, accumulating 56 points, seven clear of their closest contenders.
Despite calls for his Black Stars inclusion, the 26-year-old was overlooked from the current squad preparing for friendlies against Austria and Germany.
While acknowledging that the timing may not yet be ideal for an immediate call-up, Akonnor believes his midfielder has done enough to warrant serious consideration as Ghana fine-tunes its squad ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
“He’s not been in the picture for a long time, probably because of his performances, and now he’s doing very well, so maybe now they can start to look at him in that aspect,” he told Graphic Sports.
“Yes, he’s doing very well, so now is the time to start looking at him. In the past, he wasn’t in that category, so it’s no surprise he wasn’t invited.”
With Ghana boasting strong options in midfield, breaking into the national team remains a significant challenge. However, Morrison’s current form has positioned him firmly on the radar.
Morrison who joined Gor Mahia in July 2024 has Kenyan Premier League by storm, racking up an astonishing 14 Man of the Match awards in just 23 league appearances for Gor Mahia F.C. this season.
The former Asante Kotoko star has become the heartbeat of the Kenyan champions’ title charge, delivering week after week with performances that have left fans and pundits searching for superlatives.
His shone in Gor Mahia’s emphatic 3-0 victory over KCB, where he opened the scoring with a thunderous long-range strike that set his side on course for victory. That win restored Gor Mahia’s six-point lead at the summit, with Morrison’s influence proving decisive once again.
Fourteen Man of the Match awards in 23 games is a statistic that borders on the absurd. It means Morrison has been the standout player in more than half of his appearances—a level of consistency that places him in pole position for the league’s Player of the Season award.
His work rate, vision, and growing goal threat have made him indispensable to Gor Mahia’s system. Whether dictating tempo from deep or bursting forward to influence attacks, the 25-year-old has found a home in East Africa.
Morrison’s journey to Kenya came via an acrimonious departure from Kotoko, with the midfielder later revealing that financial considerations played a major role in his decision.
He criticised the salary structure in Ghana, stating that no player in the local league earns more than 12,000 cedis ($ 1000), making it impossible for local clubs to compete with foreign offers.
He also expressed a desire to one day return and play for Hearts of Oak at the “right time”.
For now, though, Morrison is fully focused on delivering silverware in Kenya. With Gor Mahia sitting pretty at the top and their Ghanaian general pulling the strings, the 2025/26 season could end with the ultimate prize—and Morrison’s name written all over it
