The CAF African Schools Football Championship Continental Finals Zimbabwe 2026 kicked off in exhilarating fashion on Monday, 6 April, as a pulsating Gateway High School played host to a colorful opening day of youth football in Harare.
With flags flying high and an electric atmosphere driving the action on the pitch, Africa’s rising stars embraced the moment with a series of thrilling performances across both the boys’ and girls’ competitions.
In the boys’ division, Morocco wasted no time stamping their authority on Group A, delivering the most emphatic result of the day with a stunning 6-1 victory over DR Congo.
Hosts Zimbabwe, spurred on by passionate home support, were held to a 1-1 draw by Uganda in a closely fought encounter that kept the crowd engaged from start to finish.
Group B in the boys’ competition produced some of the most dramatic football of the day.
Senegal emerged as early leaders after a perfect start, edging Benin 1-0 before claiming a thrilling 3-2 victory over Tanzania in a five-goal spectacle. Tanzania had earlier shown resilience in a 1-1 draw against Zambia, but despite their spirited displays, it is Senegal who sit firmly at the top after Day 1.
The girls’ division matched the intensity and excitement. In Group A, Zimbabwe thrilled the home fans with a spirited 2-2 draw against Morocco in a lively contest. Zambia, however, took control of the group standings with a confident 3-1 win over DR Congo.
Group B belonged to Ghana, who produced a statement performance to underline their credentials. They opened their campaign with a commanding 6-0 victory over Guinea before following up with a 2-1 win against Tanzania, showcasing both attacking firepower and resilience. Burkina Faso also impressed with a solid 2-0 win over Tanzania to remain firmly in contention behind the group leaders.
