The men’s national sevens side, Shujaa, finished second in the final leg of the 2026 HSBC SVNS 2 in Sao Paulo, Brazil, staged at the Estadio Nicolau Alayon from March 28–29, reaffirming their place in the World Championship series.
Their loss to Belgium, the only defeat by the Kenyans tainted an otherwise great tour.
They went down 14–12, as Belgium were crowned champions of the leg. Despite both sides being level on 13 points apiece, the head-to-head result locked Shujaa out of the title championship.
Heading into this round, Shujaa needed just two wins to complete their mission, and they accomplished that on Saturday with emphatic victories over Germany and Canada.
Those results secured their qualification for the three-legged Championship series alongside USA Eagles, Germany, and Uruguay, marking a pathway back to HSBC SVNS 1 next season.
Additionally, Shujaa wrapped up the series second overall in HSBC SVNS 2 with 50 points. USA 7s, who finished fourth in Brazil, added 14 points to their tally of 38 to top the standings with 52 points, while Germany placed third with 48 points while Uruguay 44, completed the top four in the qualification bracket.
Sunday proved productive for Shujaa, who kicked off their campaign with a commanding revenge win over USA 7s, a side they had not beaten in the previous two legs. They cruised to a 31–14 triumph.
In their second match of the day, Shujaa beat Uruguay 26–14.
With their qualification confirmed, Shujaa will compete in the SVNS World Championship Series, featuring the top 12 men’s and women’s teams (eight from Division 1 and four from Division 2) across three events in Hong Kong, Valladolid, and Bordeaux to determine the annual world champions
Shujaa were relegated to division two at the conclusion of the 2024/2025 season.
