Posta Rangers registered their first win in 11 matches on Friday when they hammered Sportpesa Kenya Premier League defending champions Kenya Police 2-0 at the Kasarani Annex.
A seventh minute goal by veteran Jackson Macharia and a second by Dinken Mwema in the 78th saw the mailmen win their first league game since December 8, a run of 12 games without victory.
Macharia who has been enjoying good scoring form took advantage of poor defending by Police to stab home the first goal past keeper Dan Ogembo. The goal came after an attempt to build up play from the backline between Ogembo and midfielder David Owino saw the latter take heavy touch that proved costly as Macharia stole the ball to rifle mast the hapless Ogembo.
After sustained pressure from Police who were pushing for an equaliser, substitute Mwema rose high to score the second from a corner by Brian Marita with 12 minutes of the match remaining.
The win took Posta up to 12th with 28 points, while Police, who saw their five-game unbeaten run come to an end, remained fifth with 37 points, blowing any hopes of a potential title defense.
