The Confederation of African Football (CAF) on Monday announced a US Dollars 2 million (Ksh 260 million) increase in the prize money for both the CAF Champions League and the Confederation Cup.
Consequently, the winners of the 2026-2026 CAF Champions League will receive a prize of $6 million ((Ksh 780 million), which is a $2 million increase from the previous edition while the champions of the CAF Confederation Cup will pocket $ 4 million (Ksh 520 million) up from $2 million (Ksh 260 million).
A statement from the CAF indicated that in the five years of Dr Patrice Motsepe’s leadership of CAF, the Prize Money for the winner of the CAF Champions League has increased from USD 2.5 million to USD 6 million, a 140% (percentage) increase.
In the same period, the Prize Money for the winner of the CAF Confederation Cup has increased from USD 1.250 million to USD 4 million, a 220% (percentage) increase.
“The latest increases take the overall prize money and solidarity payments to African Clubs to over USD 42 Million per season, an increase of 123.4% (percentage) since Dr Motsepe was elected CAF President,” CAF stated.

Comparatively, in 2021, CAF allocated USD 18.8 Million in total cash for Clubs in Prize Money.
CAF said the increases are in line with Dt Motsepe’s promise to Make African Club Football Globally Competitive
“In August 2024, and in line with his promise to improve club Competitions and provide greater financial assistance to Clubs, Dr Motsepe announced that the eliminated teams participating in the Preliminary Stages of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League and TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup would receive USD 50 000 each,” CAF said in the statement.
“A year later in 2025, CAF announced a significant increase in this financial support to USD 100 000.”
This, CAF said, resulted in a record-breaking 130 Clubs from across the African Continent participating in the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup 2025/26 season.
