Gor Mahia winning streak in the Sportpesa Kenyan Premier League came to a halt on Thursday, March 5 with a hard fought one all draw against Posta Rangers.

K’Ogalo were made to struggle and had to rely on a 90th minute goal scored by Ghanaian import Ebenezar Assifua from a cross by countryman Enoch Morisson.

Posta Rangers had scored the opener in the 7th minute of the clash at Nyayo Stadium when Jackson Macharia rose highest to head home a precise cross from Samuel Wasambo, giving the hosts an early advantage and immediately putting pressure on the league leaders.

Gor Mahia struggled to find their usual fluency in the first half, appearing sluggish in their approach and allowing Posta Rangers to defend with discipline and confidence.

Gor coach admitted his side did not play well as expected.

“We didn’t start well; we were a little bit sluggish in the way we approached the game. In the second half, we changed the style of play and we got better. Thankfully we got an equaliser — it would have been bad if we had lost the game,” he said.

The second half saw a marked improvement from Gor Mahia as they adjusted their style of play and pushed forward with greater intensity in search of an equaliser.

Despite the mounting pressure, Posta Rangers held firm until the final minute, when Ebenezer Assifuah capitalised on a mistake by goalkeeper Brian Odhiambo, calmly slotting home the equaliser in the 90th minute to rescue a crucial point for the visitors.

The result keeps Gor Mahia at the top of the FKF Premier League standings with 50 points, seven ahead of rivals AFC Leopards in second place.

Posta Rangers, meanwhile, moved to 25 points from 23 matches and remain 13th on the table. The Mailmen have registered five wins, ten draws and eight defeats so far this season.
